PG&E has increased rates for all customers to support their poles and wires (T&D). This affects Pioneer and non-Pioneer customers equally – everyone’s rates will go up the exact same dollar amount.
Don’t be misled. We guarantee that Pioneer’s savings over PG&E have not changed. Calculate your savings in El Dorado and Placer County.

Pioneer Community Energy Marks Five Years and Over $86 Million in Customer Savings

Pioneer Community Energy Logo

Locally owned electricity provider Pioneer Community Energy is observing five years of powering communities in Placer and El Dorado counties with competitive rates, trusted service, and a choice of energy options.

Launched in 2018, this not-for-profit Community Choice Aggregator offers residential and business customers an alternative to PG&E for electricity and also provides the only available option for 100% renewable energy through its Green100 program for customers interested in reducing their carbon footprint and the environmental impact of their electricity usage at home.

“Pioneer Community Energy has been a trusted community partner for the past five years, fighting to keep rates competitive and provide exceptional local service,” said Alice Dowdin Calvillo, Pioneer’s Board Chair and Mayor of Auburn. “We are committed to bringing dependable and affordable energy to the communities we serve. Today, we are proud to guarantee savings for 100 percent of our E1 customers and more than 85 percent of our solar customers.”

Total projected savings for Pioneer customers from February 2018 through 2023 are $86.4 million; specifically:

  • Residential Customers Total Savings: $42.1 Million
  • Commercial Customers Total Savings: $35.7 Million
  • Industrial Customers Total Savings: $7.6 Million
  • Agricultural Customer Total Savings: $1 Million

Most residential customers will experience savings of more than 15 percent on their bills in 2023 compared with PG&E’s electricity generation rates.

“To celebrate our first five years of providing rate savings, energy equity, and green energy options to our communities, Pioneer Community Energy is rolling out a new logo and look for our brand,” said Ms. Dowdin Calvillo. “We will continue to provide the same consistent service and competitive rates for our customers — with a contemporary, new look.”

Solar Customers Receive Annual True-Up

Pioneer issued checks to solar customers with a cumulative net surplus of energy (known as Net Surplus Generators) during May for the March/April billing period if their credit balance (calculated at the Net Surplus Compensation Rate) for the past 12 months exceeded $25.00. Credit balances of less than $25.00 were rolled forward and applied to the next bill.

A few of our clients have contacted us to confirm the check’s authenticity. Rest assured, it is indeed real! If you receive a Blue or Orange check from Bill.com with a reference to Pioneer, it is safe to deposit.

We take pride in helping our solar customers save; Pioneer pays $.005 (1/2 cent) per kWh more than PG&E for any over-production sold back to the grid (Net Surplus Compensation Rate or NSC).
