CUSTOMER ADVISORY: Pioneer Community Energy does not partner with any company that engages in telemarketing or door-to-door solicitations.
Pioneer supports commercial and industrial customers who are interested in lowering electricity costs. Pioneer is partnering with Ice Energy to offer Pioneer’s Ice Energy Program. With this program, customers can now install Ice BearTM systems on their commercial properties.
The Ice Bear is an energy storage system that connects to an existing air conditioner. The Ice Bear creates and stores ice when energy rates are low and then uses the ice to cool the building when energy rates are highest.
With this program, 100 Ice Bear systems are available at a highly subsidized participation fee. These units are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each system can save up to $3,500 per year. Businesses with more than one A/C unit are eligible for an equal amount of Ice Bear systems under this program, further increasing potential savings. For example, a building with 10 AC units can save up to $35,000 per year!
An Ice Bear is an energy storage system that connects to your existing air conditioner. The Ice Bear creates and stores ice when energy rates are low and uses this ice to cool your building when energy prices are most expensive.
The one-time participation fee will depend on the customers’ site specifics. This can be paid upfront or as a monthly on-bill payment for 3 years. Ice Energy will install, own, and maintain the systems on the customer’s behalf, and the customer will receive 100% of the savings for 20 years. Currently available state and federal incentives for this technology allow Ice Energy to offer these systems for a highly subsidized participation fee. Eligibility for this program will require a customer to remain a Pioneer customer during the program lifetime.
The Ice Bear system stores energy by freezing and storing ice during, off-peak hours. During peak hours, when energy rates are highest, the Ice Bear unit turns off energy-intensive A/C compressors and uses the stored ice instead to provide cooling for up to eight hours.
Through Pioneer’s Ice Bear program, customers pay a highly subsidized, one-time participation fee. The participation fee is based on unit requirements, which are determined after the site assessment and based on the existing infrastructure at the property. A new Ice Bear, purchased outside of the program, is about $50,000. Because these systems lower the overall demand on the grid during peak periods, Pioneer Community Energy pays Ice Energy a fee for this demand reduction. This is how Ice Energy can provide commercial businesses with Ice Bears at a highly reduced price.
The way the program works is as follows:
The participant must be a Pioneer customer. Any program participant must remain a Pioneer customer through the entirety of the signed agreement.
Yes. Each program participant must sign a 20-year agreement with Ice Energy.
Yes. All program participants must be a Pioneer customer and maintain enrollment with Pioneer for the life of the agreement.
Ice Energy will own the system as part of the agreement. This way Ice Energy can maintain and service the system for the length of the agreement. These costs are built into the monthly agreement fee.
Depending on the number of Ice Bears to be installed, the total timeline from order to installation is 2-4 months. This includes time to receive all the relevant customer information, create the design, and get the permits for the system and construction. These timeframes are dependent on-site conditions and local permitting. Physical installation of the units once approved is 1-4 weeks on average.
When a customer sells their property, the contract transfers to the new owner.
