Free-To-Join Rewards Program Provides Incentives for Energy Conservation

ROCKLIN, CA – Pioneer Community Energy (Pioneer), a locally owned, not-for-profit electricity provider headquartered in Rocklin, California, launched its 2026 PowerShift Rewards program season. This free program runs from May through October and provides monetary incentives in the form of digital Prepaid Mastercard® cards for voluntarily reducing electricity usage during high temperatures and periods of increased grid strain when energy costs are highest.

PowerShift Rewards has engaged more than 2,200 households across Pioneer’s service territory since launching in 2024 and reflects Pioneer’s commitment to promoting informed energy consumption and grid reliability. During the 2025 season alone, conservations through the PowerShift Rewards program produced 4.0 MWh of energy reduction and 1.3 MW of load shed – the equivalent of avoiding greenhouse gas emissions from more than 5,100 miles driven by an average gas-powered car. Pioneer has issued nearly $140,000 in customer incentives to date.

The program is open to all Pioneer residential customers. Enrolled customers receive $25 for enrolling, then earn another $2 per kWh reduced during conservation events. Customers are notified of events via their preference of text or email 24 hours before they should start conserving. At the conclusion of the season, participants receive another digital Prepaid Mastercard® reflecting their cumulative rewards for energy conservation during the season.

Event participation is completely voluntary. Participants have access to a personalized dashboard that allows them to monitor their usage, track their rewards, and see their impact in real time.

Developed in partnership with Uplight – a clean energy technology company that helps consumers and energy providers conserve, manage, and monetize energy capacity through customer engagement.

Pioneer residential customers who are not yet enrolled can do so at PioneerCommunityEnergy.org/PowerShift
